Master your own domain: how to build a website

Installing software on a server isn’t always as straightforward as installing an application on your computer but some hosting companies make it easy by offering a range of CMSs which can be installed via a one-click system. These CMSs are usually free and open-source. A good example is WordPress – software that’s generally associated with blogging but is actually an incredibly powerful tool that can be used to build all kinds of websites. The key is the template or theme; there are hundreds of free WordPress themes available online and it’s likely that you’ll find one to suit you – but if you can’t you can either be brave and learn the rudiments of the PHP programming language or find someone who’ll do it for you. Spending £200 on getting someone to tweak a WordPress template to your requirements is money far better spent than forking out excessive amounts for domain and hosting services. Check out freelance auction sites such as php-freelancers. com to find someone to do the job.

Fans are going to want to see this end up at Flickr.

In this lengthy post Hoffman explains that Thesis Wordpress Theme provides a template allowing you to make changes through a simple control panel rather than altering Wordpress code. You can pick and choose the display pages and mix and match pages and blog categories in the top navigation header which lets you add links to outside sites.

Your only responsibility is to continually create killer content that attracts and converts customers. ver the past year flyte probably built more sites on CMS platforms than not. ur two main tools were open-source CMS solutions: Joomla and WordPress. There are plenty of other platforms out there as well and I know a lot of people like Drupal which is another open-source CMS. In our experience Joomla is more powerful and more scalable but has a steeper learning curve. It’s great for bigger sites and member-driven Web sites. WordPress is easier to learn is an excellent blogging platform and no site is too small for WordPress.

It was just there when I arrived on the scene a few months after the company launched. I think it had to do with three of the founders being in Australia and long distance calls. However since those early days in 2005 voice chat has become a staple of any notable IM client.
