Goverati is a term I coined a few weeks ago while participating in a Social Media Club DC discussion panel. In essence the goverati are people familiar with government and how it works and who understand new social technologies. They want to network with one another to foster an increasingly transparent participatory and collaborative government.

If the rumors were correct (we suspect they are since the source was someone employed at Philly. We were told last year “A copy of Wordpress a handful of plugins and a template and the new site could have been done in a matter of days for free internally. instead we shelled out a huge amount of money for Microsoft to build us a Linux based site.

Some have been received better by the companies they claim to represent than others. Most simply ignore the satirical alter-egos but Canon is one company that isn’t taking all the smack talking from its fake exec lying down. The company has requested that Wordpress. The header of the blog “FAKE CHUCK WESTFALL: Canon Camera Guru – Ya Better Recognize!” seems to clearly convey that this blog is in fact not written the real Chuck Westfall.

How is it paid for? It is the work of current employees. I am sure they are not being paid above and beyond for this work. Free CMS (WordPress) on a $6. host also seems very reasonable. 'Stealth' marketing? I cannot see any deceptive or illicit practices here. It is called social marketing and is an above the table practice that is widely used and very popular.
